Trust us… The moment you take a seat at Cafe Paci, order the wickedly fragrant XO trout potato dumplings. You won’t be disappointed. Where the adventure takes you next will depend on the day and what’s in season, but Finnish-born chef-owner Pasi Petänen’s quest for original ideas and bold flavours is a constant. A tight, Euro-leaning menu is full of swerves and surprises, such as toothy dill-pickled carrots laid like fish scales on a crusty piece of rye spread with spicy ’nduja; or silky parcels of ravioli filled with mortadella in a chilli-spiked butter sauce. The kooky cooking doesn’t stop at the main dishes: earthy carrot sorbet crowning a dense liquorice cake with tart yoghurt foam is a long-time favourite for very tasty reasons. In a discreet position on loud, vibey King Street, the dark and intimate dining space – kitted out with well-stuffed booths and zany artworks – is a haven of cool escapism.
