In the interests of avoiding regret, when deciding between the three- or four-course set menus at Manzé, choose four. You’ll know it’s the right call when the snack course lands: colourful, crunchy, tangy pickles (made using vinegar from the jars lining the shelves in the intimate dining room), a crisp-battered oyster mushroom served with Manzé’s own deep-flavoured, comfortably fiery hot sauce, and a glistening tumble of cubed lamb tossed in a garlic and chive chutney and topped with fresh sorrel leaves. It’s a heady introduction to the thrilling South Asian and East African-influenced Mauritian flavours on display. Follow them with grilled fish in an ethereal watercress broth, potatoes teamed with smoked chilli, or crème caramel with a knockout cardamom sorbet. Like the charmingly casual cork-floored room, excellent service and natural-leaning wine list (well-matched with the deftly spiced food), it will leave you wanting more. So please, opt for the four.
